The cost of a metal roof isn't much higher if you compare it to the cost of ripping the old roof and installing new asphalt shingles. You don't have to rip the old roof if you're putting on a metal roof, it's what they call a 'floating system.'

I was given a price of 13,500 to rip the old roof and install new shingles and a price of 16,000 to install a metal roof. I didn't even have to think about it, I'm going with the metal roof.

Contractors who specialize in metal roofs tend to be more established businessmen, not too many fly by nighters. The guy I'm dealing with says there is a 20 color pallette to pick from. I'm looking forward to seeing those!
