Independent Research Findings Support Global Network's Business Strategy
Online newspaper sites identified as delivering 'valuable traffic' and paying customers to advertisers
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2000--Global Network, Inc. (OTCBB: GNNU - news), the first online newspaper advertising network servicing the needs of national advertisers and local newspapers, announced today that the findings of an independent research study published by NFO AD:IMPACT support the Company's business strategy and market focus.
As the first network of its kind to aggregate local newspaper web sites and make it easy for national advertisers to market locally through a one-step ad purchase process, Global Network was one of the first Internet marketing companies to recognize the very attractive demographic that newspaper sites attract. This recognition has been validated by findings published by NFO AD:IMPACT, a leading provider of research-based marketing information to the worldwide business community, and division of NFO Worldwide, a member of The Interpublic Group of Companies (NYSE:IPG - news). NFO AD:IMPACT is an independent third party and was not commissioned by Global Network or any of the companies and web sites surveyed in its report. The report found that online newspapers are some of the most recognized and visited web sites among local-oriented Internet destinations including local city guides owned by such leading Internet properties as AOL, Yahoo!, Lycos, and Ticketmaster CitySerach.
The study's findings include the following:
1. Online newspapers were identified as delivering `valuable traffic' to advertisers. 28% of site visitors report contacting a business that advertised on an online newspaper site and 54% of those report having made a purchase from those online advertisers.
2. Across 17 major and local markets, 66% of all online consumers were aware of online newspaper sites as compared to 34% awareness of local competitive city guide sites.
3. In a study which directly compared online papers to Yahoo!Local in 7 major markets, newspapers had 74% awareness as compared to 34% for Yahoo!Local. 56% of online users visited newspaper sites as compared to 16% for Yahoo!Local. Within a recent 30 day period, 28% of survey participants indicated visiting a newspaper site as opposed to 4% who visited Yahoo!Local.
4. The study concluded, ``The online newspapers are in a wonderful position to focus on building user traffic that is not only interested in gathering news and local market information, but is also interested in shopping. That ultimately provides the most compelling value story for prospective online advertisers, and it's clear that newspapers are making great strides in that direction.``
Mr. James Mason, President and CEO of Global Network, commented, ``These published statistics demonstrate the value of our network which includes 100 online newspaper properties. In the past national advertisers who wanted to market locally would have had to call each newspaper site directly to get pricing, availability, and creative specs. As this is a very time consuming process, many of those advertisers would have naturally opted to make a one-step purchase through the local city guides owned by national networks such as AOL, Yahoo!, and Lycos. Now, utilizing Global Networks' proprietary one-step purchase process, national advertisers can efficiently market through online newspapers to a much more attractive demographic. It is our goal to help online newspaper publishers achieve higher ad revenues while providing national advertisers a venue through which they can target proven valuable traffic.''
