Don't know if this has been posted before. It is a NY Times piece that talks about Apple's acquisition strategy

nytimes.com

The thing that hit me when I read this article is the r&d that Apple buys when it buys these small companies. I am guessing it saves a lot of r&d dollars by buying up companies that actually have developed something of interest, instead of waiting on the possibility that an in house group can do something. All companies do this, especially now since so many tech companies are flush with cash, maybe by being lean what their r&d should be to their actual revenues. Because of this, I wonder if the costs of these types of acquisitions should be added, in some way, shape or form, to the r&d costs section. It would be interesting to me to see how this would change r&d costs inside some companies.

I think the author has a certain deference for Apple by using Cook's middle initial when he is talked about in the article. It will be interesting for me to see what he writes about next about Apple and what position he takes.

Good luck out there.
