In protein drug delivery studies, a-interferon has been successfully
delivered transdermally in mice using the Biphasix delivery system.
These results are a positive step toward the development of the Biphasix
delivery system for human applications.
Most protein-based therapeutics are delivered by injection. It is
anticipated that the Biphasix delivery system will make the administration
of protein-based drugs and vaccines more patient-friendly by reducing the
need for injections.
The company's Biphasix delivery system uses a unique, lipid-based,
microencapsulation process, which is capable of delivering a wide variety
of pharmaceuticals of varying size, weight and solubilities.
