We need to close all government medical programs and shutter the insurance programs that separate the consumers from their own interest in controlling their medical care and its cost. That would certainly be a better system than we have now. Although we would have to figure a way to help the poor pay for needed medical services. The biggest problem with the US system if the bulge of cost in the middle; the massive and expensive bureaucratic insurance industry with more regulations than any government could dream up in 100 years... 200+ different payers with different systems. There are two solutions... one is eliminate all insurance "benefits" and make them one off programs. Or single payer. Frankly I think the latter would be much easier to implement. It would be politically impossible to eliminate health care as a benefit.
