That would certainly be a better system than we have now. Although we would have to figure a way to help the poor pay for needed medical services.

The biggest problem with the US system if the bulge of cost in the middle; the massive and expensive bureaucratic insurance industry with more regulations than any government could dream up in 100 years... 200+ different payers with different systems.

There are two solutions... one is eliminate all insurance "benefits" and make them one off programs. Or single payer. Frankly I think the latter would be much easier to implement.

It would be politically impossible to eliminate health care as a benefit.
