My laundry facilities are in the basement, too. But that works fine for me as my office is also in the basement, where I spend most of every day. Not a bit inconvenient for me. But I did close up my second story master bedroom and bath 2 years ago to get rid of one flight of stairs. Now I only go up there about once a month to flush the toilet and run water down the drains to keep them from drying out. It's become my guest room... and I have very few guests.
