Openwave 6.2 Browser and v. 6 MMS client

Two new phones from LG Electronics will feature multimedia messaging technology from Openwave Systems Inc., the companies announced. Further, Openwave said its Mobile Messaging Client software has already shipped on six devices with a total of 20 devices expected to ship by the end of this year.

Openwave said its messaging client Version 6 is shipping on the LGE 4050 for the GSM market and will ship on the LGE 5450 handset for the CDMA market approximately one month later.

“We have come a long way with LGE in just the past year, establishing two back-to-back 'firsts' across CDMA markets with our client software,” said Thomas Reardon, vice president and general manager of Openwave. “From partnering in the launch of the LGE 5350 with our WAP 2 browser to shipping the new set of LGE phones with the Openwave Mobile Messaging Client in both GSM and CDMA markets, our combined efforts are helping to set the pace for a better user experience for messaging, downloads and XHTML content.”

Openwave Systems Inc. said Japanese operator KDDI has upgraded to Openwave Mobile Browser Version 6.2 for its first set of megapixel camera phones. The carrier uses Openwave’s client and server WAP 2.0 technology to power its EZweb mobile Internet services. <<
