Reuters Company News Dell shares fall on rumor that company denies NEW YORK, June 20 (Reuters) - Shares of Dell Computer Corp. (NasdaqNM:DELL - News) fell as much as 4.8 percent on Thursday on rumors that the company was being probed by U.S. securities regulators, traders said. The company said it was unaware of any investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission into the company or its top executive. "We're not aware of any SEC investigation of Michael Dell or of Dell," spokesman Mike Maher told Reuters. Shares of Austin, Texas-based Dell were off 86 cents, or 3.5 percent, at $23.87 in afternoon trade, recovering from lows of around $23.53. The broader tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index (NasdaqSC:^IXIC - News) was off 12.04 points, or less than 1 percent. "The rumor we heard this morning was the SEC was investigating either the company or Michael Dell," said the co-head of trading at a Nasdaq specialist firm who declined to be identified.
