01/19 DJ NS Group/Furnace -2: Sees Lower Costs, More Capacity
NEWPORT, Ky. (Dow Jones)--NS Group Inc. (NSS) Monday said its board agreed to
purchase and install a new AC electric arc furnace at its Newport Steel plant
in Wilder, Ky., for $25 million.
In a press release, the company said the new furnace, which will replace
three existing furnaces, is expected to lower costs and boost total effective
capacity.
NS Group is currently evaluating proposals from construction, engineering and
equipment suppliers, and it is expected to award contracts by March.
The company expects to fire up the new furnace in the Spring of 1999.
NS Group is a steel and industrial adhesives holding company.
