Creditors' Plan Would Oust Founder of Bankrupt California Firm Boyds Wheels
Sep. 23 (The Orange County Register/KRTBN)--SANTA ANA,
Calif.--Creditors of bankrupt Boyds Wheels Inc. filed a competing reorganization
plan Tuesday that would shut out founder Boyd Coddington.
The plan puts Automotive Performance Group

When Boyds Wheels filed its reorganization plan, Coddington said he hoped
to return to a streamlined company by year-end. Boyds filed for bankruptcy
in January with debts of $15 million.
"They (Automotive Performance) don't know a thing about the wheel business,"
Coddington said.
Bastian said in mid-August that Automotive approached Boyds Wheels with
a reorganization offer, but Boyds already had a plan. Bastian contacted
Tempe-based Automotive, which makes engines for race cars.
Under the competing plan, creditors would get a 17 percent stake in the
company instead of the 12 percent offered in the company's plan.
Either way, the new Boyds would make custom wheels, design hot rods and
sell auto-care products.
Lawyers for both plans said the company's biggest lender, City
National Bank, still supports the company's plan.
A bankruptcy court is expected to decide which plan will prevail by December.
