Hi Ken,
I had not thought of the IDE technology, but this is a necessary progression. Did any of the Iomega people tell you at what cost decrease we could expect on the ZIP disks per year or a similiar factor? The question here is at what disk price does it take to replace the current floppy. My latest Microsoft Office was delivered with 13 floppies and this technology must become a cost effective trade-off between ZIP, CD and current floppies to take over the current floppy market. By the way I own a ZIP drive and it is wonderful. I use it for backup, to run applications that I don't use often and old versions of applications. A huge market right now for the ZIP is back up, for $300 people can have an automated back up system and this includes anyone that has a computer, a huge market.

I am aware of one MAC clone maker that has the ZIP and ultimately the Viper as an optional storage device. Also a company has an array storage device ready to go with the Viper.

Iomega does not 'generally' go to outside manufactures, but had to because of the unexpected demand for the ZIP. I expect they will try and bring manufacturing back into the company since they have been in the past been able to keep manufacturing costs low.

I plan on buying Iomega but at what price???? Right now it is trading around $23, I was on vacation when it droped to $17 and would have bought if I had been in my office.

I agree with you that Iomega is in the drivers seat right now and the only 'red flag' on this investment is if someone else comes up with a better mouse trap, i.e. removable storage with lower cost and better performance.
