Amazon Says Appstore Selections Tripled In Past Year Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) said Monday that the number of apps available in its Amazon Appstore has nearly tripled in the past year. The news comes ahead of an Amazon press event in Seattle scheduled for Wednesday in which the world's No. 1 e-tailer is widely expected to unveil a long-awaited smartphone. The company says Amazon Appstore now has more than 240,000 apps and games, and is available in almost 200 countries. It said developers report strong monetization from the apps they offer in Amazon's store. An IDC survey commissioned by Amazon found that 65% of developers say that the total revenue they achieved on Kindle Fire tablets is equal to, or better than, competing platforms.
