Performance isn't as big an issue as service and support--something which Linux lacks. If it were the case, Linux would have dominant market share, not Solaris (which is roughly on par with Linux, but a lot more expensive to buy).

Sal, Solaris has been around for quite awhile but with PC's reaching the point of performance they have, I would think that is part of the success of Linux. Not in comparison to Windows but just look at how many web servers are ran on Linux boxes.

Technical support? When was the last time you called technical support for an OS issue? Sure, people new to computing will have problems but once they learn how to reformat their H.D. and reinstall Windows why on earth would they spend a fortune on long distance calls?
