Interesting article on switching for optical networks:

networkmagazine.com

Explains well for a non-techie such as I the (no doubt simplified) details of the battleground among the (yet-to-be) optical network switching providers. There's clearly one gorilla in network switching/routing, but writer shows the several chimps (if you can call Lucent and Nortel that) contending for the yet-unstaked tech lead in the seemingly wide-open category of switches for optical networks.

I'm not selling my Cisco, but I sure would like to identify an optical switching developer (I realize there's no product yet) that's public. Corvis seems a promising company, but it's private. I've looked at SDLI--pricey. Since I strongly consider price (even if only relative to sales growth, IPR, etc.), and readily hunt for shiny pebbles and gorilla wannabes in sectors where there's no clear gorilla presence, I'm no purist GG investor.
