10/9/2020 Contest update
(Contest and Index YTDs are calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
The Economist election forecast now puts the chances of Biden winning an electoral college majority at a whopping 92%. Last week FILO posted that I was a man ahead of my time. So, gazing into the future, I see (some of you might think sacrilegiously) clean energy stocks being a better place for my money than biotechs. A Biden administration will be pouring billions into clean energy while taking action to control drug prices.
Just looking at this past week confirms my prognostication. Although the biotech ETF, XBI, gained a nice 8.96%, the clean energy ETF, ICLN, did even better, gaining 12.16%. Any other seers out there?
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 20.36% YTD (vs. up 9.31% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 20.54% YTD (vs. up 13.12% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 28.84% YTD (vs. up 18.03% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 28.37% YTD (vs. up 22.77% YTD a week ago).
JBOG’s portfolio, up a spectacular 244.63% YTD, remained Contest leader, with FILO’s portfolio, up 189.42% YTD and MASTER’s portfolio, up 108.46% YTD, holding on to second and third place.
At Friday's close, 29 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 20 beating the NBI and 16 beating the SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 32.98% with the median moving into the green with a YTD gain of 2.38%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: ADRO symbol change to KDNY after last Friday’s 1-5 reverse split.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe and relaxing weekend biotechies.
And don’t forget to wear your mask and social distance.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
