10/23/2020 Contest update
(Contest and Index YTDs are calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
With November 3rd closer by the minute, my spreadsheet addiction has broadened from updating Contest data to obsessively updating early voting data. Remarkably, as of Friday afternoon (2:30 pm PST), 52.7 million voters have already cast their ballots either in person or by mail. That’s 38% of the total 2016 vote! Based on early voting thus far the total by November 3rd could even equal 80% of the total 2016 vote. (Since 2020 voter turnout will be much higher than in 2016, the 2020 early voter percentage will be lower.)
I’m getting my early voting numbers from the U.S. Election Project website:

Meanwhile, biotechs had an off week, possibly fearing a Biden election and a Democratic Congress will result in drug price control. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 17.53% YTD (vs. up 19.43% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 15.40% YTD (vs. up 18.23% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 25.74% YTD (vs. up 29.18% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 28.02% YTD (vs. up 29.39% YTD a week ago).
JBOG’s portfolio, gave up a bit of ground for the week but still has a sizable Contest lead with a 213.11% YTD gain. FILO’s portfolio, up 135.77% YTD and MASTER’s portfolio, up 85.57% YTD, held on to second and third place.
At Friday's close, 28 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 22 still beating the NBI and 15 still beating the SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 25.88% with the median back in the red with a YTD loss of -1.95%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: IMMU buyout at $88 by Gilead.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe and relaxing weekend biotechies.
And don’t forget to wear your mask and social distance.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
