<<I think what Adobe is finding out is that there is no market for the "consumer", read dumbed down, version of their professional software in the Mac market, and even that is being revisited in the wake of new users buying iMacs. >>

OK, but I still suspect that Adobe is finding it difficult to expand their market to consumers. Photomanipulation, video editing, design and layout applications stymie the populace.

It's here that the cheaper knock-offs are competing and gaining market share over Adobe. There are only a limited number of professionals out there. It could be that the cost of supporting them with the latest innovations is getting expensive.

The consumer software market is where the industry is growing. You need growth for your company to be healthy. Sure, Brand X PhotoLook can't handle the duotones and gamma that PhotoShop does, but it can certainly clean up and image and adjust brightness and contrast.

If 30 percent of the PhotoShop users who I consider mediocre decided that Brand X is more their speed, I suspect Adobe's sales will not be as great. How have they been doing lately? Are their sales expanding?

I apologize if I sent anyone into a panic. I was only speculating on possible extremes on why Adobe might make such a drastic move on the Mac. Which we know know to be not true.

The professionals are still there.
