This project seems to have received very little media probing. They in theory are getting AMD process tech and x86 design tech. AFAIK, AMD's process tech is largely bleeding edge, i.e. complex & expensive, aimed at high frequency leading edge processors. If these guys aim at being more of a commodity FAB, why are they using AMD technology? Perhaps AMD is giving them Geode technology. Does anyone know what process at AMD Geodes are built on? Is the output restricted to low cost products for the third world like the 50/15 PIC and $100 laptop projects? IMO, this was a very significant development, but no one has quizzed AMD exec's as to how this fits into AMD's strategic plans. Perhaps Hector might comment on it tomorrow?
