Ignacio, Do you not believe that it takes constant renewal, whether one is a poet or not, to stay alive in a meaningful sense? It would be pretentious and elitist to think that poets, a rather amoebic and subjective group anyway, are the only ones attempting and succeeding in,this daunting feat. A poet is one who, through grace, is able to put the struggles of life into words. THe truly great are able to tap into the grand schemes, the universal truths of existence; others in perhaps smaller ways, appeal to particular emotions or groups; while for some poetry is a purely personal expression, and while it may not touch the deepest part of the soul of another, may be appreciated for a pretty turn of phrase. No honest attempt should be denigrated or criticized, most certainly not in a forum such as this or we shall "die aborning". |
