Point of interest.

The NC may reduce the demand for less that 1Gig disk drives. The demand for more that one to two Gig is driven by servers and workstattions. KM relates to larger storage drives (else why use it).

Informix, Oracle, and Sybase are all responding to the increase in Windows NT sales, esp as a server. All of the major data base software houses are just jumping onto the NT and WinTel bandwagon as they can now support large data bases. This should increase the demand for very large disk drives. NT sales have now surpassed UNIX sales.

Intel is improving its mother boards to include (in late 97) the Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP). The AGP can hold only one card and that is dedicated to video (esp. 3D video). The AGP will have a clock rate in excess of 100MHz and at least a 64 bit bus. This will provide speedy, superior graphics on the WinTel platform for less than 1/4 the cost of most workstations - WinTel will be equal or superior as a serious workstation platform. The increase in sales of WinTel workstations should also fuel the sales of large hard disks.

The NC may offer only limited impact to the use of KM and WinTel developments may spur the need for large disks and KM.
