Since U.S. passbook accounts return wha', maybe 1.5% and the CPI is running +1% or so, the only way he could get minus 12% real returns was if he lived in a place w/rampant inflation, ie, Argentina...unless of course you remove all the hedonic adjustments in the CPI and include real stuff like rent, health and property insurance costs, price of primo 100% blue agave tequila...you know the real stuff that real people use!<VBG>
