Winstar Awarded Thirteenth Government Contract
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AUG. 16, 2001--Winstar Communications, Inc. today announced that it has been awarded a Metropolitan Area Acquisition (MAA) award from the General Services Administration's (GSA) Federal Technology Service (FTS) for the city and surrounding metropolitan area of San Antonio, TX. Winstar, along with SBC will share this contract, which has a potential value of $239 million over eight years.
The San Antonio MAA is the thirteenth federal contract awarded to Winstar under the MAA program. Over the past 16 months, Winstar has secured MAA contracts to serve the metropolitan areas of Cincinnati, OH; Los Angeles, CA; Baltimore, MD; Atlanta, GA; Miami, FL; St. Louis, MO; Indianapolis, IN; Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN; Dallas-Ft. Worth, TX; Denver, CO; Boston, MA; and Philadelphia, PA.

Under the four-year MAA contract, which includes four additional one-year options, Winstar will provide data and local switched voice services, as well as dedicated transmission services to government users in San Antonio. The MAA contract also allows Winstar the opportunity to offer new technologies and services as they become commercially available, which ensures that government users can exploit the same technology enhancements and cost savings as the private sector. Eligible users include federal agencies, federal contractors and certain federally supported universities and laboratories, among others. |
