Re: John - The Pipe

John,

Don't let the Bandwidth Doom and Gloom Guys win you over.

As far back as Oct 97 Singapore Telecom Ltd. (Singapore), had taken the plunge on wide-scale commercial deployment of ADSL.
By Oct 97 it had already installed ADSL access multiplexers in 27 telephone exchanges, making the service available to 60 percent of Singapore's population. Full coverage was planned by the end of the year. data.com

There is lot's of Dark Fiber out there to Light Up, and if that is not enough there are Technologies like WDM and DWDM, which do to Fiber what DSL does to the Copper Twisted Pair.

I wish I had the time to Write Posts like I did back in 1996 when I 1st discovered ADSL, but unfortunately I don't have the time anymore,
and post what I can.

The following article may help you better understand some of the issues.

americasnetwork.com

Around the world DSL will be as common as the telephone, at least for those countries that have telephones and copper lines.

Since 1996 the #1 Investment in my Portfolio has been Bandwidth and Networking.

Lucent, Cisco, Quest, Frontier, Global Crossing, etc. No matter what happens to the Market, these companies will grow. When I put my money in I don't have to watch the Prices, I just have to wait 10 years, and Retire.

Since I have mentioned Texas Instruments and their ADSL recently,
You might look at TI's Dominance in DSP's.

The DSP is currently where the Microprocessor was in 1984, it has a long way to go.
