Jefferson County/Birmingham Alabama in collapse...
THE Story for 2010 is already starting:
More cities, counties, and state governments will follow California, and now Jefferson County, Alabama (Birmingham)...

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Reuters) - Alabama's debt-ridden Jefferson County laid off about two-thirds of its 3,600 employees on Monday because of plummeting revenues, a move that will sharply curtail services in areas ranging from roads to courthouses.
The cuts are just the latest blow to Jefferson, whose population of 660,000 includes Birmingham, the state's largest city and its economic powerhouse. They come after the county racked up around $4 billion in debt by using exotic financial instruments (Wall Street DERIVATIVES) to fund a revamp of its sewer system.

Here's another story, one that has two angles.
The City of South Bend & St. Joseph County Indiana, played the fear card of having to lay off police officers, and won passage of a hotly contested, new 1% county wide income tax.
Then just days later... announced Federal Stimulus money that will allow them to not only keep all existing officers, but hire 13 new, additional Police Officers!
Funding they knew was in the pipeline and about to be announced, so they rushed through an emergency tax increase before the announcement was made.
And people are pissed!
But, there's a second part of the story to all this stimulus money that no one is talking about...
All this stimulus money comes with BIG STRINGS attached... mainly that the city, county, or state governments must continue that spending after the Federal grants run out, or The Federales take over!
Here's a tale of two cities in Indiana.
southbendtribune.com
One Mayor sold out the taxpayers, and the other did the right thing.
"South Bend was one of 21 Indiana police departments to receive the stimulus money, which lasts for three years.
In South Bend, where they accepted the grant, a reporter asked Mayor Stephen Luecke how the officers' pay will be funded when the grant has expired.
"At this point I can't say specifically where it will come from, but three years gives us time to grow our assessed value and (allow the economy to recover from recession)," Luecke said."
But, a different story in Muncie, In. where the Mayor told The Star-Press on Tuesday that she would decline that city's $1.2 million grant, funding five officers, because she didn't believe her city could maintain the funding after the third year.
---------
South Bend's mayor said he had no plans on how they would continue the funding of new, additional police officers once the Federal grants end - because that's the plan!
Democratic mayors aren't worried about how they're going to continue the funding when the Federal grants run out, because they are being encouraged to spend, spend, spend their cities into Federal control.
That's why South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford got "Spitzered."
...because he was trying to refuse the Federal stimulus money and the strings attached.
[See, all that NSA & FBI spying and data-mining paid off]
These state and local governments know they will not be able to continue the funding once Federal stimulus funding ends. This spending is going to collapse state and local governments into Federal control.
And then just like in California, they'll have to turn over key taxpayer owned and paid for infrastructure, like parks, public land, utilities, and toll roads over to the Federal Government.
State and local governments will collapse under debt into the hands of the Federal Government, and the Federal Government will collapse into the hands of the private Central Bankers.
The Economic Hit Men have finally gone after the Big Bull Elephant -- America.
And make no mistake about it, America is in the process of being IMF'd.
Massive debt used to collapse the economy, enabling private bankers to seize power over the government, enforce the rationing of goods and services to the people, institute oppressive taxes, and loot infrastructure including utilities, toll roads, water supplies, and public lands.
If Cap & Trade and the Health Care bill pass -- it's all over.
It is critical that you get in your local Congressman and Senators' face over this August recess and fight this takeover.
I never thought in my lifetime that after hearing Ronald Reagan utter these words:
"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall."
That one day I'd be worrying about one being built here in America.
