<And I was not a Browns fan. He killed my team.> Same with me:) But his greatness was so manifest one could not be in awe of such greatness.
And you bring up a major point that JimBrown , because of Paul Brown's dictates, was constantly limited to being a battering ram between tackle.
I wonder how many times i saw Jim Brown run into a wall of tacklers , and while Jim would vanish that pile of tacklers were carried 3-6 yards, or at some incredible times when you see the wall moving and then suddenly out broke Jim Brown free and clear.
I have heard it said he was never tackled from behind after breaking free(i never saw it).
And another memory is how he conserved energy, and how at a plays end he would get up real slow and walk slowly back to hudddle, and the opposing team thinking he is getting worn down:)
And what an all around athlete, first team all-american in Lacrosse and major component of the Syracuse Basketball team.
Which reminds of a name of another player who time is forgetting due to the tragic shortness of his career, the man the Cleveland Browns gave Jim Browns number(was it 32???), that man being Ernie Davis. Thanks for the link. max
