Hi mr.mark
Sorry for the tardy reply, my cable modem provider has been having problems the last couple of days.
..did you try using nav rescue disks, per #reply-15631877 ? .... i suggest that you run your nav rescue disks. they are designed for just this sort of problem...
Didn't try them. I have NAV 4.0 which is getting long in the tooth, but I don't remember any rescue disks that came with it. I work out these bugs on my computer very grudgingly, maybe learning about rescue disks sounded like too much work... I know - bad attitude...:o)
...and what about your win2000pro emergency repair disk, and the (4) win2000pro setup disks...
I was able to navigate (in DOS) into my W2000 installation CD \BOOTDISK folder, ran MAKEBOOT.EXE, made the four CDBoot floppies, but on running them one turned out to be defective. I booted the CD, and chose 'repair'. It seemed to be the same thing as was on the 4 floppies, but of course loaded much faster. I chose the selection for repairing boot sectors. It looked like it was repairing the boot sector, it told me it did, but it didn't solve the problem that I had with the boot sector.
I just made my W2000 emergency repair disk, and it doesn't look like there's very much on it. Maybe it is able to launch diagnostic and repair programs from the hard disk once you boot up.
I guess my approach to these glitches is not to try to fix them, but to erase what I have to, and put down new code or restore with DI. My main tools are fdisk, format, and DiskImage. Sorry I can't tell you whether NAV rescue disks would have helped - now that things are running smoothly again, I'm going to open NAV up and see about those disks.
I can tell you that it helps immensely to be able to bring questions like the one I had to you and the others on the thread. Even when the exact answer doesn't pop up right away, the process of exchange gets you un-stuck.
Thanks, Frank |
