Can anyone comment on the possible impact of IBM's announcement of SiGe products?

from what i read, IBM's new SiGe chips are aimed at the wireless communications market for digital cell phones, pagers, and PCS. applications include low-noise and power amps, voltage-controlled oscillators, and discrete transistors.
while it is true that these SiGe chips will replace certain GaAs integrated circuits, they are nothing like the GaAs ICs VTSS manufacturers. VTSS (unlike anadigics, alpha, celeritek, REMEC, triquint, and IBM) sells high integration GaAs chips for very high speed data- and telecom, and networking applications (e.g., SONET/SDH, ATM, gigabit ethernet, fibre channel). the other GaAs makers i mentioned also produce their linear, low-noise, high gain GaAs chips specifically for the wireless cellular handset and infrastructure market. in short, they all use GaAs (or SiGe), but VTSS participates in an entirely different market and sells very different chips.
that said, i don't think IBM's announcement has any effect on VTSS.
