There's another side to this "land" story.
We bought a beautiful wooded, 6 acre view lot near a small town in the Sierras (not far from Sacramento but a horrible drive there). We bought it at 43,000 8 years ago...intending to build eventually. Decided over the years that Cal. sucks so put it up for sale 3 years ago: Tried for a profit. It finally sold last summer AT A LOSS!!!! Sold for 39,500. But all those years paying taxes (highway robbery to have to pay taxes on raw land but there we are)... and had to use a broker who took 10%.

Perhaps your location was better...where was the land?
