The Bombay Company, Inc. Announces March Sales Increase
FORT WORTH, Texas, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bombay Company, Inc. (NYSE: BBA - news) reported today that same store sales for stores in existence for more than one year increased 14% for the five week period ended April 3, 1999, compared to the corresponding period of the prior year. Total sales increased 18% to $29.5 million compared to $25.1 million last year. For the nine week period, same stores sales increased 6% and total sales increased 9% to $51.7 million from $47.4 million last year.
Robert S. Jackson, Chief Executive Officer, stated, ''The Company is very pleased with the response to the new spring products particularly in the areas we have identified as high growth. The new storage baskets, candles, textiles, florals and gift categories performed very well. Our furniture sales also had good results as we continue to improve the assortment in that area. Strong gross margins for the month more than offset February weakness and put the Company back in line with its gross margin plan.''
