I believe the FUTURE is with Marcam-Solutions, NOT Mapics. The way I see it, Mapics is the OLD IBM AS/400 proprietary system with roots back to to early 80's - this is the segment that is dying and being replaced by the New Client/Server, open, Windows/NT "object oriented" systems, which Marcam-Solutions' "PROTEAN" has such a lead in (from what I've read) - especially in the "Process Oriented" manufacturing wing. Maybe somehow Mapics may out perform M.Solutions short-term (milking off the Year-2000 problem in the AS/400 segment?), but beyond that I see it as bad news for Mapics and the "World is Our Oyster" for M.Solutions as PROTEAN takes off. Is the "real growth" you see for Mapics, Bob, Year-2000 oriented, or do you REALLY see a future beyond that for Mapics? What's your read on PROTEAN vs. the competition in the Win/NT Client/Server "Process" world (ie, Ross, Datalogix, and SCT(Adage) - are there any more??)? ..........Hope to hear from you. |
