Ray,

Please provide backup for your vague statements: "GATE and DELL will stick with Intel CPU and will lose significant market share to Compaq in the next two years. The biggest losers will be the technlogy loser: Intel and those box makers sticked with Intel."

AMD and Cyrix probably can't produce enough cpus to satisfy all of Compaq's sales. You people read reports about a suped-up K6 machine outpacing a Pentium II chip and get all freaked out. The semiconductor game is won in manufacturing, capacity and chip yields. (Of course, a little P&G style marketing never hurt. When was the last time you saw a AMD tv ad?)

Compaq is at the greatest risk as it tries to move in the direct sales area. They must win market share while not eating into their existing sales channels. When big companies adopt new strategies, they usually misstep.

Cheers,

Loren
