You can count on the fact that the German government was told of VW's problems shortly after the 25th of April this year when Chairman Ferdinand Piëch and his wife were removed from the Board of Volkswagen Group due to "a lack of mutual trust".

Once you discover a liar who has been keeping secrets from the Board, it all has to be rooted out to protect the company's future. Even if the problem is the chairman and a family member.

No one at VW other than Ferdinand Piëch would have had the clout with employees to keep this quiet, with reporting bypassing management and reporting only to the Chairman.

The deposed board members - His extended family's trust owns 51%, but once he betrayed his family's confidence his cousin and other family members made he and his wife leave.
