I went to Maspeth yesterday (big mistake). People were screaming that they weren't allowed to open new accounts. I also went to Cross County, which is near Maspeth, thinking that there wouldn't be a big line - the line was a 4 hour wait. The same people were opening accounts, going from bank to bank! Northfield, I heard also stopped opening new accounts yesterday. What I'm curious to know is if there is any truth to these rumors about the cutoff dates, like from past rumors about banks supposedly going public (for Independence, I never heard back then that the cutoff date was 3/31/96.)
