SBC-BellSouth, T and VoiceStream will comfortably compete while voice remains primary in U.S. - at least through 2001.

SBC and T remain prime Euro-teleco targets, but would face significant regulatory/congressional review with outcome uncertain. Using VSTR as a yardstick, they'd be exceptionally expensive as well.

If EDGE is improbable, if the EDGE evolutionary path to wCDMA is problematic, they may also be the first to flee to superior standards.

Something to watch for. Perhaps around May 2001.
