Eric, Ever read the financial book "Blood in the Streets?" Great book that discusses investing in panics. I think there is money to be made next year (without touching my Exxon stock, of course)! When people get somewhat scared, they buy certain stocks and bonds and send the prices soaring. Of course as the panic starts to die down, you must get out. So timing is everything. In what little research I've done, the big computer dates this coming year are Jan1, 1999, then Apr 1, Jul 1, and Oct 1. The first one as you mention is important for look ahead systems. The next three are starts of fiscal years in important places around the world. What I am curious about after the start of Jan 1, 2000, is what will happen with military systems around the world. Many countries are like armed camps and would love to attack their neighbors if possible. If computer systems that run military defensive systems go down in these God-forsaken little countries, neighbors may feel it would be a great time to attack. So as you say, the year 2000 could be quite entertaining. |
