Vic: I also am very much more into FTEL than DCTC, however, the two companies are quite complimentary in several ways. You have mentioned financing expertise, but also DCTC has their preferred card that may well open up new markets for the network, especially overseas markets. Perhaps we can use this location to discuss the nitty-gritty of a national internet long-distance phone network. What does ALEC mean for FTEL/FNET? What is missing in the network? Joe mentioned that they have 75% of what they need and are in talks for that other 25% component. I am going to guess that they need a jv with a switch mfgr, such as Cisco? So, we have the basic backbone, the wireless hookup from the VPOP to customers, the channel banks, and perhaps a presence as 'the local alternate provider'? Here are some terms that we need to learn:
ALEC/CLEC Alternate or competitive local exchange carriers - CAPs that have been granted carrier status or telco status
CAP Competitive access provider or new local service carrier; offering mainly non-switched services (may also offer switched services)
ILEC Incumbent local exchange carrier or telco
IXC/IEC Interexchange carrier or long distance carrier
LEC Local exchange carrier or telco
RBOC Regional Bell operating company
