Buying news and hang-ons might make money, you are trying to follow crowd. When one measures price and volume, he will be aware of moves if he has a comprehensive database, and he does not have to know reasons or "story" behind move. That is the appeal of Technical Analysis.

if you buy because CNBC mentions it, when do you sell? If you buy because of a new product, when do you sell? If you bought on the basis of a stock breaking a 89 day moving average, you would sell when it goes back thru it. you control emotions. SPTR is at 14+, do you buy it now? They might still supply fiber.

I wouldn't want to buy a stock, hoping enough people watch and buy based on CNBC. Agree there are moves, but the method seems suspect.
