I tried it on a small scale a few years ago, with a discount broker. It worked OK, but I had the unfortunate luck of having to sell 4 of the 5 the next year, and buy 4 new ones to replace them. The commissions give the portfolio a nice hit, which requires a good year just to make up the charges.

I understand that some of the big boys on the street, such as Smith Barney and Merrill, as well as Sherson, have a closed end fund that copies the dogs of the dow theory. I don't have details as to the start dates, fees, etc. Sorry.
