Does anyone know of a source of charitable funds from a high tech company in Silicon Valley/SF that would be willing to support humanist activities?? There is a struggling group in the Berkeley area, Secular Humanists of the East Bay (SHEB) eastbayhumanists.org
that currently meets in libraries and other modestly-priced meeting locations, that could sure use money to get their own permanent meeting place. Beyond just meeting, I think an ideal place should have some singularity and presence, to hold such ceremonies as marriages, services for those who have died, etc. >> who wants to die, then have some minister you had no knowledge of, doesn't know you, saying all the things about you, talking about heaven that you didn't believe in,etc.
Part of the problems encountered by secular humanist groups is that generally there is no provision for celebrating life's milestones, which is why many, many non-believers still go to church >> just for the societal benefits.
Any leads on funding would be tremendously appreciated!! Scott |
