Re: The Palace

There is an internet site which is related in some way to Time Warner called The Palace. Also, PC Week has an article at:

pcweek.com

That states that Intel and Softbank will have a joint press conference tomorrow.

Dow Jones had the following report today:

Japan Softbank, U.S. Time Warner And Intel Form New Co.

NEW YORK (AP-Dow Jones)--Time Warner Inc., Softbank Inc. and Intel Corp. will form a new
company that will develop and operate a 'virtual world' service on the Internet.

The company, to be called The Palace, will try to expand the usage of an online environment Time
Warner rolled out last November. It is an animated, graphical representation of physical environment
that is shared between computers connected through the Internet.

Users can choose 'avatars,' cartoon figures to represent themselves. They talk to other people by
typing messages, similar to chat experiences on the Internet and other online services. The
companies are working on ways to incorporate audio and video features into the virtual world service.

Several other companies, including Worlds Inc. and Worlds Away, a venture led by CompuServe Inc.,
provide similar animated online environments.

Michael Maerz, who had led Intel's Internet and communications group, will become president and
chief executive officer of The Palace, based in Portland, Ore.

The companies didn't disclose the size of their investment in The Palace, which is to be formally
launched on Monday.

Softbank is a leading distributor of software, publisher of computer industry journals and convention
sponsor. Intel is the largest maker of computer chips. Time Warner's investment is through its Warner
Music Group, one of the largest music production companies.
