Anyone see the article in Feb. 9th Information Week regarding NDS for NT? Apparently some analysts, customers and Novell insiders feel Novell should lower the cost of this product, if not give it away. Sources close to the company claim they MAY cut prices later this year. Novell just dosen't get it. If customers are saying they'll look at the product, but it's just to expensive, lets give them a few months to go with another product.

Also, something that Scott Lemon and I used to argue about:

"Separately, a recent Gartner Group report criticizes Novell for going back on a 1996 statement that it would issue patches to make Netware year 2000 compliant. Novell has issued those patches for Netware 3.12 and 4.11. But for users of Netware 4.1, 3.11 and older versions the only option now is to upgrade."

Sure, this is a sound strategy for a dying company fighting to control eroding marketshare. Go ahead, force the issue with companies, many of whom have obviously been on the fence regarding upgrading. Bye, Bye customer base. Wonder what percentage of Novell's installed base uses these products. I didn't realize they weren't issuing patches for 4.1 either. Remember VK whose large company was running 3.1 and leaning toward NT. Scott was attempting to have someone contact them, but I believe last time VK commented on the issue, they had heard nothing yet.

Kinda like all the construction going on. I think EKS may have been wrong about the funding for the SAN JOSE construction. As far as I know, details were only released for one of the construction jobs they feel necessary, and I believe they were for the Provo campus. Regardless, details for one of these projects remain a mystery, as does whose going to occupy all the space. If Novell buys Netscape, that could be the end IMO.

These guys continue to defy logic. As of yet, I see no significant changes in management style, marketing, their cocky attitude, and of course the totally worthless board. Now their probably gearing up to schmooze investor's over at the annual meeting in April with Netware 5 hype, and that'll take the heat off till next shareholders meeting. Some BOD changes just before the Netware 5 release is probably the only change that will give them a chance. I believe the world would applaud removing John Young and company, and replace them with some big names. This alone would generate massive excitement amongst the analyst/investor community and probably cause the stock to far surpass any buyout rumor we've seen lately. Until this happens, Novell will never come close to their potential, at least in terms of stock price, IMO.

I really get the impression that these guys still float around in their bubble of superiority, just knowing that everything will be OK a year from now. Time's a wasting, and has been for years.
