Update for my reference, Looking over my QQQ trades and going back to early June 2002
I can see what I suspected is very true ( in my case )
I can buy dips a lot better than I can call tops.
With 21 short trades with 12 covers, ( I had to average down several times )
I still wound up with 3 positions I had to close at a loss..
total shorts amounted to approximately $189,000 and profits after
commissions were only $1,057 or about .5% and all that caused me a lot
of worry..( for the amount of profit I can't see me tying up my time
trying to play the short side.) Some people seem to be good
at shorting but I can't get the hang of it..
---
On the long side buying dips I had 27 qqq buys to 21 sells
some I had to average down, and I also had to close 3 positions
at a loss. However after commissions I made $5727 on the
long trades or about 2.3% on the buy side money.
Or I could say I did 5.4 times better at going long than short.
---
Most of my trades were at 300 qqq shares with up to 900 shares
in a position. Had I did a buy and hold of 900 qqq shares
from June 2002 I would have beat this short term trading..
almost 2X but I would have had a lot of bad dreams.
