For sure it sounds so very noble and is bound to win the approval of many people. But it is really a "red herring" used to disguise the true motivation of the leaders of democracy and civilization.

Actually, the leaders of democracy and civilization such as we have in the GOP have exploited that sentiment to get the support they needed to go to war against the Moslems in the Middle East for OIL --- the vital "black gold" and lifeblood of industries and fuel of the world and for the very fact (according to Henry Kissinger) that the country in control of world's fuel controls the world. Indeed, the US wants to enjoy hegemony over the rest of the world!

From what I know as a chemist myself, the world will always need OIL for the vital chemicals it provides, even if the world has in place technologies that dispense with using oil as a source of energy for transportation and homeheating & etc.
