re: Theisman...
That was an ugly hit.
Theisman and Montana are my two favorite ND players of all time. I was a kid when Theisman was here. He was let's say... quite the "character" locally when he played here.
Montana was married I think as a junior/senior. He had an apartment over a local bar, drove a flashy orange Trans Am, and was said to be quite the poker player, while Theisman just played poke her.
Art Best, an early 70's running back is another local legend and favorite, who unfortunately, is probably more remembered for his running off the field, than on.
Among South Bender's, I'd say Theisman, given the era he came from, is still the all time QB fav', Montana 2nd, Hanratty 3rd, Quinn 4th, Tony Rice 5th, Clemens 6th, and Clausen to be determined.
That's judging from what I call the "modern era"... sans Paul Hornung, Johnny Lujack et al.
I still view the "Era of Ara" as the golden age.
The Parseghian era was Notre Dame's Camelot, all though it ended badly at half-time at Southern Cal.
Holtz had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the University, but the fans loved him. He did wear a little thin at the end, but I love the guy and he's a great speaker, endless stories, and one liners. Endless...

UNG needs 2 out of the 3, of cold weather, higher oil, and a weaker dollar.
Let's see if she holds the close. |
