To All: about the 50 thousand modems, they did not install them, they were leased modems that they were to cheap to give out the numbers on, as they " did not want to pay the royalities," so they let their customers suffer untill they got afraid of the law suites.
NEW YORK, Feb 10 (Reuter) - America Online has failed to publicize older but less crowded telephone lines that its customers can use to gain access to its service, the New York Times said Monday. The paper said that instead, the company has encouraged customers to use newer lines rather than older ones provided by outside carriers, since it must pay fees to outside carriers if subscribers use those lines. Until 1995 almost all of America Online's incoming calls were delivered over networks belonging to other companies, but AOL has been building its own network of modems and telephone lines to cut the charges it must pay to other carriers, the paper said. The paper said about 80 percent of the company's traffic now flows over AOL's own network. -- New York newsdesk 212-859-1610 REUTER Rtr 03:54 02-10-97
pcfn.com ----------------------------------------------------- Again the building it's own network is not all true, as they have contracted BBN net to do it... and BBN net is tied to AT & T ---------------------- still the point is they had 50,000 extra modems available all along , they did not add new ones, but just reluntently released the numbers of leased ones, but only after they were forced too..the scam they pulled on their customers, is small to the one they are pulling on share holders. ---------------------------- Jim |
