I don't know much about Peace Dollars and if this is accurate. Prices vary widely on ebay.

Can the plastic cube be accessed or is it completely sealed? The answer is no, the grading agency (the two main ones are PCGS and NGC) seals the coin in their own plastic slab with a label showing the grade. Along with the cost another consideration is the wait time unless you pay an expedited fee. I've never sent anything for grading myself, all of my graded coins were bought that way from dealers. They might have specials for first time submissions, I'm on a PCGS email list and they occasionally have promotional deals. Also they often have a booth at the major large coin shows around the country. You might want to contact them if your cube cannot be opened about what their policy is.

For most modern bullion coins grading isn't necessary or add much value but make for a nice holder protecting it. And for some vintage and ancient coins it can make for a big value add. You might do an eye test on the link above or the ebay listings for 1935 Peace Dollars.
