This is actually in response to Ron Harvey's post:

exchange2000.com

where he wrote:

<<I do hope that those who read a post they consider to be flaming simply don't respond. That kind of self-control would keep the board civil and more open to ideas. Don't feed the flames. An elementary fire-fighting technique.>>

I respectfully disagree. I'd hate anybody to feel frustrated or depressed or maybe take out their anger on someone they live with when they're enraged by what they see as a stupid or insulting post. It was inevitable that someone would test the parameters of the non-flaming topic (though, to be fair to Mr. Pink, whether sarcasm qualifies as flaming is an arguable point, so I'll give him credit for lawyerly skill in splitting hairs).

I suggest that the appropriate way to respond to an inappropriate message in the other thread is to post an answer in this thread by posting a link. It's a fair amount of bother, but I would suggest it's worth the effort for anyone who feels a compulsion to answer but also want to maintain the integrity of the non-flaming thread.

Let's face it--self-control is out of style in the 90's. Maybe the best we can hope for is a little discrimination in venues.
