SNPS good value

Years ago, I rode CDN from $10 to over $100 (not adjusted for splits) then got out. I traded SNPS and AVNT too. For the past couple of years, I've been out of EDA investing - so much more could be made in wireless, fiberoptics and internet software. But once in a while, I check up on EDA shares. It's a bit surprising to see SNPS shares at current levels.

I'm involved in SOC design with exposure to tools from all the major EDA vendors like AVNT, CDN and SNPS. I'd have to say that I'm most impressed by the consistent quality of SNPS products and support compared to the others. The concern about pricing model changes is short-term. SNPS management is too savvy to repeat the mistakes made by CDN. Given the critical role EDA tools play in the success of chip companies, it still amazes me that EDA share prices do not get the boost like their customers. Just look at the share prices of companies like ADI, ATML, BRCM, NSM, TXN over the past year to see my point. Something about the EDA business model is fundamentally flawed. And of the EDA companies, I'd give SNPS the best chance to solve this vexing problem and get EDA shares to track their customers.

Bottomline for me - I would not be a serious LTBH until I see better signs that the business model issues are being turned around. But the current price level does present a good trading opportunity, particular in options. I'm looking at buying Dec 35/40 calls and selling Dec 35/40 puts.
