ALSTOM awarded three hydroelectric projects in North America QUEBEC, Canada, October 24, 2001 — ALSTOM has signed a contract for approximately EU 36 million with Hydro Quebec to completely refurbish 4 turbines and generators for the Outardes 3 hydro plant in Quebec, Canada. Commissioning of the first unit is planned for the last quarter of 2003 and of the whole project by end of 2006. The refurbishment will enable plant output to be upgraded from the present 760 MW to 1040 MW, an increase of 37%. Grand Falls, Canada ALSTOM has won another contract valued at about 7 million euro to design and supply 1x 30 MW unit Francis turbine and generator for the Exploit River Hydro Partnership, a joint venture formed by Central Newfoundland Energy and Abitibi Consolidated (the largest Canadian Pulp & Paper producer). Commissioning of the unit is scheduled for the last quarter of 2003. Rocky Reach, USA A refurbishment order worth 44 Meuro has been awarded to ALSTOM by the Public Utility District Chelan County in the US. The Rocky Reach Hydro Project is located in north central Washington state on the Columbia River, about seven miles upstream from the city of Wenatchee. ALSTOM is to supply and install 7 x 120 MVA generator rotors and stators for the Rocky Reach Hydro Power plant. The first unit is scheduled for operation in March 2003 and all units will be fully operational in November 2006. The refurbishment will upgrade the plant output from the present 819 MW to 840 MW.
