Robert, there are a lot of smaller companies is this market at the moment. In the US, Westell (WSTL) Technologies seems to have an early lead in RBOC trials. Currently, I believe every Bell (and GTE) is trialing their ADSL (CAP) equipment. They have also announced a central office Digital Access Subscriber Line Mux (DSLAM).

Amati Communications (AMTX), Orckit Commuincations (going public soon), Pairgain, ECI Telecom, Pulscomm and Performance Telecom are some of the smaller companies involved. Of the big guys, Alcatel seems to be very well positioned. (There are others)

Finally, the Bells have apparently decided they want an ATM interface at the Telco side of the concentrator. The DSLAM products announced to date have ATM OC3 (I think) interfaces. I believe WSTL may be using Fore Systems' ATM technology. Sourcecomm (not public) has licensed Ipsilon's IP switching engine which IMO makes more sense for IP/data traffic. Finally, Amati has for now chosen to go with an ADSL/Ethernet Hub/router product at the CO. (For data, this makes the most sense IMO for now)

Cheers,
Daniel
